Simone Martel
I’m from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. I’m a junior film major & anthropology minor at Kenyon College, and in my work I weave together my lifelong adoration of storytelling, theatre, filmmaking, photography, and visual arts.
Growing up in a section of the Rust Belt nicknamed “cancer valley” for its quickly growing amounts of hazardous industrial facilities, I am terrified about the future of my community and our environment. I also wrestle with the feelings of awe that these towering industrial structures have given me my whole life. In my work I feel an undeniable attraction to the obtrusion of the artificial, staged, and theatrical in natural environments.
I hold the position of Creative Producer/Photographer at Kenyon’s Office of Communications, and have also held videography/visual storytelling/marketing roles in the nonprofit & agritourism fields.
You can usually find me working on a student film set, writing, performing standup comedy, running, or playing the guitar. I'm also active in Kenyon's theater and comedy scenes.
